Over the last decade we have seen a great increase in the use of vehicle security and the technology has advanced greatly, we now have electronic immobilisors, tracking devices, even remote immobilisation via your mobile phone. What if all of your security became useless through such a simple process. Mrs V Pawson has written to us with her concerns and is strongly advising that we need to put more pressure on the government.
"I recently added my stolen VW Golf to UK Stolen Cars and wanted to make everyone aware of a form of car crime that although becoming increasingly common, the average motorist may not be aware of. My car was stolen from my driveway while I was at home. The thief actually walked into my house and helped himself to the keys. Apparently this is a nationwide activity and whilst the average motorist takes care to make sure his car is secured/immobilised etc, once the thief has the keys it doesn't matter what security they may have. I am trying to get this message out to as many people as possible, not only for their benefit but to also make it as difficult as possible for the lowlife who think its ok to help themselves to our hard earned property.
Pressure
needs putting on the government to stop people having number plates
made up without proper identification i.e. production of the V5
document and insurance."

We recently purchased a new registration plate at a large vehicle chain store, although the registration was perfectly legal, we were only asked for an address for their records. We would agree that this is certainly too easy and a system similar to road tax disc renewal certainly needs to be addressed.
